Though there is great mobility of international students around the globe. Most of them favor certain countries, the most favored among them being the United States . The UK, Germany, and France come next, usually in that order. Nearly one- fourth of the international students go to the US. There are several reasons for this popularity.

No other country has so many reputed universities as of United States , if you look at any global ranking of universities, you may perhaps be surprised to find the enormous dominance of this country.  It occupies a position far above all others.  Many universities in the US have excellent infrastructural facilities in terms of faculty and equipment. They invest substantial sums for research activities, and many departments often have strong links with industry. The campus support services, opportunities for financial aid, and streamlined admission procedure are some of the other significant points for their appeal. One great advantage of study universities is that the language of study is invariably English.

Flexibility in programs and courses, facilities for financial assistance for meritorious international students through teaching or research assistantships on-campus opportunities for remunerative work internships during holidays, access to professional training and exposure to a wide variety citizens in a cross-cultural environment are some of the other significant advantages against these merits, we should keep in mind the burden posed by high tuition fees and tough visa restrictions. owing to the rush of international students. Securing admission in US universities or quality institutions may be a challenging task.

In the US, a student after secondary education enters a four year college and secures a Bachelor's degree. The four years are usually labeled freshman, sophomore, junior, and senior.  Alternately, a student after secondary education may join a two-year college, sometimes known as a community and get an associate degree. It is possible to move from a community college to a four year college or university to complete a degree. There is greater diversity in educational programs in four year colleges; the student strength would be more than that in two-year College.

Two-year colleges award associate d like AA (Associate of Arts) and AS (Associate of Science).  Whereas the four year college awards the degree like BA (Bachelor of Arts) and BS Bachelor of Science). Some of the four colleges may run a few graduate programs as well. Remember that graduate programs in the US correspond to what we call postgraduate in India

The reputation of college is a vital consideration in choosing an institution for our study.  Many of the prestigious college are in the private sector. They usually charge higher fees compared to the public institution. Getting entry to a celebrated college becomes easy, if we have high grades in the school easy classes, good scores in SAT1 reasoning test (scholastic aptitude test), and fine personality features. In order to study in the United States, we may have to prove our competence through our scores in standardized tests, such as the TOEFL, SAT1, SAT2 Subject tests, LSAT, MCAT, GRE, GMAT, and so on.

In India, we start professional studies in disciplines such as engineering, medicine, and law after the higher secondary school. In the states we can start these only after the first degree.

The academic year usually lasts nine months, from August / September to May. The year may be divided into fall and spring semesters. Sometimes year may be divided into trimesters. There may be an optional summer term as well. These divisions differ from one university to another.  We have to check and conform the academic calendar. It is often convenient to start a program in the fall term that begins in august / September, compared to starting in the middle of the academic year for the spring semester.
