Counsellors are not just people who tell people what to do. They often find themselves entering the world of their clients. They need to be empathetic and understand the complex nature of psychological distress.

Counsellors typically have a strong background in psychology, psychotherapy, or social work. You should also have a degree in psychology or a related field, although it isn't necessary to get into this field as it is one of the few professions which accept non-degreed professionals. This is because there are few university courses designed for counsellors and qualifications that assess their suitability for the role.

The job of a counsellor is not just about being a therapist. A counsellor is also responsible for providing emotional support to the clients and helping them cope with the problems they face.

The scope of this job is vast. It includes working in schools, hospitals, prisons, residential care homes and other institutions. The pay scale varies from country to country but it usually ranges from Rs 10,000- Rs 20,000 per month.

Counsellors are eligible for government jobs in India if they have completed their graduation or higher education courses in any counselling related discipline like psychology or social work.
