Dental Assistant

Dental Assistants work in a dental office with the dentist, dental hygienist, and other dental staff. They are responsible for preparing the patient for treatment and assisting in the treatment of patients.

Dental Assistants typically provide patient care by:

- Providing information to patients about their dental condition,

- Preparing the patient’s mouth for examination and treatment,

- Taking x-rays when needed.

- Cleaning teeth or assisting with cleaning teeth,

- Removing sutures or dressings from healing wounds,

- Assisting with procedures such as fillings or extractions.
 

A dental assistant is a person who helps dentists and dental hygienists in their practice. In India, a dental assistant has to be eligible for the Dental Assistant course. The scope of job responsibilities for an Indian dental assistant is vast and it can vary from one place to another.

Dental Assistants are employed by various sectors such as hospitals, clinics, laboratories and research institutions. They work under the supervision of dentists or other dental professionals and provide support in different aspects of the profession such as patient care, laboratory work, administrative tasks, data entry etc.

Dental assistants are required to have a high school diploma or its equivalent from a recognized institution. There is no minimum age requirement for dental assistants in India. However, they must be 18 years old or above to be employed as dental assistant in India.

Scope of Dental Assistant:

Dental assistants can work in many different settings such as private practice, public health care facilities, schools, government agencies and offices. In addition to being employed in these settings, they can also work independently on their own time outside of their employment hours.

Dental assistants are qualified to provide assistance in dentistry, including taking and recording x-rays, cleaning teeth, and providing patient care.

Dental assistants are required to be registered in the Dental Council of India. They can be registered as dental hygienists or dental nurses. In order to become a dental assistant, one must have a bachelor's degree in dental hygiene or nursing.

The scope of work for a dental assistant is vast and ranges from basic tasks such as taking x-rays to more complex tasks such as providing patient care and administering anesthesia during surgery.
