Dress Maker
A dressmaker is a person who designs, makes and sells women's clothes. The term is used for men's clothes but the word "dressmaker" is more commonly used for women. 

A garment factory or clothing factory, sometimes called a cloth mill, is a manufacturing plant where cloth or fabric (or both) is produced from raw materials to make finished goods such as coats, dresses, shirts, trousers and skirts.

In the late 1800s, the dress industry had begun to emerge as a major industry. The demand for clothes was so great that it became necessary for women to work outside of their homes in order to make a living. The first dressmakers were usually immigrants who had learned how to sew in their native countries. These immigrant women would open small shops, often out of their apartments or homes, and hire other women from their home country as employees.
