Nurse

Nursing forms the largest group of professionals who work in the health sector. Their job involves giving bedside care to convalescing patients, attending to newborns, to assisting physicians during examination and operation of patients. Hospital nurses constitute by far the largest group. Their responsibilities are: 
• Assisting physicians during examination and operation of patients 
• Bedside care of convalescing patients 
• They record temperature and pulse rate 
• Administer medication orally and hypodermically injections 
• Change dressings 
• Assist patient in personal care 
• Maintain patients treatment record, temperature, respiration, pulse rate, nourishment, progress etc 
• Nurses observe patient s condition closely and report the progress to the physicians 
• They prepare patients for examination or operation and help to maintain a healthy and hygienic environment 
• They have to ensure that cleanliness is maintained in the wards to check the spread of communicable diseases 
• Senior nurses are designated as Matron or Nursing Superintendent and they are responsible for supervision of the work of nurses and related administrative 

School nurses 
• Supervise student s clinic 
• Attend to injuries and any sudden illness amongst children. 
• Take first aid classes, health and hygiene lectures for senior students 

Nurses in industry 
• Render preventive health care services such as vaccinations etc 
• Offer remedial nursing care 
• Educate the industry employees on precautionary health related issues under the directions of the Industrial Physician 
• Administers first aid under emergencies 
• Senior nurses designated as Matron or Nursing Superintendent are responsible for supervision of the work of nurses and related administrative duties

*Admission to B.Sc Nursing is on the basis of an entrance examination or merit in qualifying examination. Eligibility - Age 17 to 25 years. Educational qualification 10th with Science 40% marks Reservation - As per State Government rules.

After Class XII Sc preferable / or work Experience a three-year diploma in General Nursing can be pursued. An entrance examination of the objective type in English and General Science is most commonly conducted 

Two-year B.Sc Nursing Post Basic/Certificate is for those who have completed Plus Two or equivalent in Science with work experience of 3-5 years after a General Nursing/Midwife training 
• Certificate course in General Nursing GN General Nursing Midwives GNM and Male Nursing MN of 3½ years is conducted by every state as per their policy for admitting students for GNM courses. They have a list of hospitals conducting such training. They conduct the examination through state Nursing Boards and award GNM Diplomas. Notification and admission details are published in leading newspapers of the state. Alternatively information can be also obtained by writing to Director medical services training of the state 

Class X followed by 18 month Auxiliary Nurse Midwife/Multi-Purpose Health Worker courses merit based entry 

• Post graduate training/education is of 2-year Master s Degree, M Phil and Ph D courses. Colleges admit domiciles of the respective states but some national level colleges conduct all India entrance tests. Most nursing courses tend to offer the nursing courses to women candidates only, but it is open also to males in restricted numbers. 
• Nurses, in some specialities, such as those working in intensive care units, are required to takes extra courses after the basic training and a few years work experience

Median Pay Scale / salary of Nurse:

72 Thousand to 6 Lakhs per annum
