Police dog handlers are responsible for handling all aspects of their canine partner's life. This includes feeding, grooming, exercising, training, and caring for them on a daily basis. They must also be able to respond to emergencies at any time of day or night.

The job is not easy because police dogs can be aggressive on duty which means that they may bite someone who is not an offender or suspect in order to protect their handler from harm or injury. This means that handlers must always be prepared for the unexpected and always have control
